When did I learn to set boundaries as a manager? Actually, every day anew, because setting boundaries is not something you have ever mastered. It’s a constant process of trial and error, because you don’t actually feel the boundaries until they get closer. As a young manager, I pushed the boundaries far too far out of fear of appearing overbearing, which made me seem indifferent like a Teflon. When I learned to do this, I occasionally realized on reflection that perhaps I had gone a little too far. And today I would never say that I can do it. But what I would say is that I always reflect and adjust.
