The Leadnow Leadership Model
The Leadnow Leadership Model
Leadership is a means to an end: implementing the strategy. Effective leadership strengthens employees' engagement and self-efficacy. This cannot be mandated. It has to be developed.
Room to develop self-efficacy
Effective leadership maintains these four guardrails:
- 1.Goals: Leadership is a service rendered to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
- 2.Values: How do we achieve the goals?
- 3.Role-modeling: Effective leadership leads by good example.
- 4.Holding the line: It's success-critical to hold certain boundaries non-negotiably.
Substantive goals are the starting point. They are defined by the strategy. How the goals are reached is defined by the values. Many leaders set goals and hold people to them. The same has to be true for values: naming and modelling them is helpful, but not enough. Because culture is defined by the worst behaviour a leader is willing to tolerate. (Gruenert & Whitaker)
Aims to make goals and values jointly known and valid.
Means role-modeling and holding the line.
Means guarding all four elements.
Effective leadership gives people a framework in which they can develop.
Introducing leadership systematically is a task of its own: it needs to be interlocked with the strategic goals and evaluated. That's why we don't just do leadership development — we build the Leadnow Academy for you.
